This House is for the Birds

I hadn't planned on posting more
than once this week, but I took
these pictures this morning and
thought, 'Why not?'

This is another one of our collaborations
(my husband the builder, and me the artist).

This is probably
my favorite bird house that we've
made together.

I think it's because the design
is the funkiest he's made so far, and
I'm all about the funkier the better.

It also makes me think I'm sort
of weird as an artist, because I
love color clashes.
(as is obvious by my pieces).

Sometimes it's intentional,
and sometimes it's just because
I have to use whatever paint
I have on hand.

Either way, I try and make
it work and am usually
pleased with the outcome.

Thank you for visiting
and saying hello.

Bunny Hutch

I received this bunny hutch
when it was looking a bit
tired and needing a little lift.

It was stained wood
with black grating.

Why didn't I take a picture
before I started??

* * *

First, I drew out patterns of a flower
and butterfly and my husband
kindly cut them out of wood
on our scroll saw.

I decided to spray paint the base.
With all the wire and intricate structuring
it just made more sense.

That said, I rarely use spray paint, but
I'm glad I did in this case.

You can see Maybelline came to check
things out.

On a side note, we've noticed she's been
biting the fur off the back of her tail.

She's 11 years old and has never done
that before.

Hmmm. . .

I'm hoping the bunnies will enjoy
their new digs.

Thanks for visiting!

Painted Chicken Coop 3

First of all, I need to give
credit to Aimee from the Farm
Animal Sanctuary for these pictures.

I forgot to bring my camera and
she was kind enough to take these.

My husband put in the hinged door
within the front door.

This way the chickens
can get in and out without having to open
the larger door. There's a little carabiner at the
bottom that can secure the door shut, or hold it open.

The back wall has 3 panels with decorative
wood strips in between.

For the benches, I decided to paint a
rug design in predominantly gray to
hopefully camouflage the inevitable mess.

Here's Bob attaching the carabiner
to the chicken wire to hold the door open.

That's Zobe the beautiful little zebu cow
in the background.

I just love her!!

We've had so much fun
helping to beautify the farm.

It's been an honor and a privilege.

Mixed Media~ "Aloha"

I had so much fun creating this piece.

I've been dreaming of an island
getaway lately since our temperatures
have exceeded 105 this past week.

I used texture, jewel embellishment,
decoupage, paint, ink, pencils,
you name it.

Today I'm working on another bird
house that my husband made last week.

I'll post pictures of that when I'm finished.

I'm feeling a little rushed today with
all I want to accomplish.

Better get to it!

Happy creating and thanks for visiting.
