Distracted Drawing

I drawing a little Japanese
girl for a mixed media piece
on wood that I'm planning.

You can get a glimpse of my messy
work space in the picture.

Quite often I jump around from project to project
and it doesn't take long for my art space to clutter up.

It's strange though, because I don't like clutter.

Before long, I have to straighten things up.

I was like that as a little girl too.

My bedroom would get messy and stay
that way for a while, and then I'd get so
sick of it and have to clean it up.

While my problem was maintaining
a clean organized space, my husband has
always been a "clean as you go" type.

I'm trying to be more like him in that regard,
and would say I'm 80% there.

The following is a picture of my
dear sweet son-in-law and daughter.

This is the reason for my distraction today.

My son-in-law starts radiation treatment
for his 4th bout with cancer
in the past 7 years.

Yesterday he posted on his Instagram;

Tomorrow starts day 1 of my 18 day
radiation treatment. I've got my mental
boxing gloves on and I'm ready to begin.
Cancer has no power over me or my outlook
on life! I am blessed.

This young man has been
a true hero and inspiration
to me and all who know him.

If you're a person of prayer, please
remember Evan and his wife Shawna.

It's so tough as parents having to
see your kids go through such hard things
at a young age.

Parents are wired to want to take away
and prevent pain and hurt for our kids.

Sometimes, all we can do is be
there for them and pray.

That's what we do.

Mixed Media Drawing

I have a love hate relationship
with this drawing.

I'm happy with the face,
the basic design and the balance
of the drawing as a whole.

The headdress is so flat
though. It bugs me.

Even if I tried shading it, it
wouldn't help. That part of
the drawing is off.

I call it Mardi Gras, because that's
what it reminds me of.

Not that I've ever been, but it's what I'd
imagine seeing someone in a Mardi Gras
parade looking like.

Well, I guess it's back to the "drawing" table for me.

Have a wonderful day.

Thanks for stopping by.

Tangled Portrait

Sometimes I start
drawing and can't stop.

Here's a prime example.

This piece was fun as well as
therapeutic to create.

Repetitious drawing of shapes and designs
put me in the zone. . . .

That's when hours pass like minutes.

I was limited on my color
palette because I was limited on my
markers and pitt pens.

Looking forward to starting on
a new project today.

Make it a great day!

Thanks for visiting.

Bird Love Drawing

I drew this lady when I was first
experimenting with colored pencils.

Obviously I used markers and pens as
well, but her face is colored pencil.

I'm thinking of remaking it now that I've
learned a little more about blending
and using colored pencils.

I say remake it, because I don't have
the actual piece anymore.

Another mistake I mistake I made was using
more of a textured watercolor paper instead
of a smooth Bristol Paper.

There're a lot of elements to the
design that I do like, and some I'll leave out.

Just talking about it is stirring up
motivation to get started.

That said, I can't get sidelined!

I have to finish my current project first.
(More on that later).

The one thing I don't want is a room full
of partially finished pieces.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hope you have a wonderful day.

Wedding Card

Yesterdays project was to make
a wedding card for a friend of ours
who recently got married.

It's fun making my own cards. They're
usually drawings and doodles.

Sometimes I'll make mixed media cards
which can be pretty elaborate.

I carefully consider the recipient before deciding
how much work to put into each one.

I hate the thought of spending 3 hours
making a card and have it wind up in the trash
the next day. In that case, I'd rather buy a card
from the dollar store.

Hopefully it'll bring a smile to their faces.

Thanks for visiting!

Sharpie Art

I decided to put my work out here
whether I like it or not.

Even if I think it's awful and I'm
cringing as I hit the publish button,
I'm sharing it.

The reason?

Because every artist has to
start somewhere and I still consider
myself a beginner.

Like I've mentioned before,
eventually I want to see some progression.

If people knew how hard I worked to get my
mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful after all.
~Michelangelo

His sentiment gives me hope
even as I cringe and hit publish.

Thanks for stopping by and
thank you to those who've served our
country on this Memorial Day.

Sign Inspiration Drawing

Today's drawing was
inspired by a picture of a sign
my friend had posted from her travels.

It caught my eye and I decided to
draw my own version of it.

I used pitt pens and pencils on Bristol paper.

Thanks for stopping by.

Blue Hair ~ Tangled Portrait

I love mixing portraiture with
tangled patterns.

This type of drawing is very therapeutic for me.

Here I'm trying out some new pens I picked up at Michaels.

I'm not sure why I tend to gravitate
toward unnatural colors, but it's okay with me.

After all, this is my own little world.

Todays plan is to work on painting
a dog house my husband finished over the weekend.

I'll post pictures of that when I finish.

Happy Monday!

Thanks for stopping by.

Tangled Portrait

I've only done the drawing part
on this piece. I still need to work
on some shading.

I love the sunflowers on her cheeks.

Today I'll be working on my art journal.

I'm finding the process is getting
easier and easier with each page.

Wishing you a blessed day.

Playing with Markers

I've been working on my first art journal.

I told myself beforehand that I wasn't going to rip
any pages out no matter how they turned out.

Becoming better at ones craft is an evolution.

I wanted to see the progression of my work
from page 1 to page 50, or however many pages there are.

Well, I broke my own rule on the first page yesterday.

I'd coated the finished page with a gloss super heavy
gel that started to stick and pull apart
the finished inside cover of my journal.

Yikes!

I weighed my options and decided to start fresh
again with my rule now reenacted.

Live and learn. . .

The following picture is one of my
drawings I made while playing with markers.

Wood Cut Drawing

Wood cut prints always catch my eye.

Their contrast, details, variation in style and intricacy
are so appealing to me.

My drawing is calling out to be carved.

I've only had a small amount of experience in
school with wood cutting, but I remember it
being a lot of fun.

Not having all the materials at this time,
this'll get relegated to the "unfinished" box for now.

So many projects, so little time!

Thanks for stopping by.

Wishing you peace, love and joy.
